Not fruit, but the root.
Why I can’t sleep?
“I am not going to lose my sleep over it.” That’s what you said, but in reality, it’s been bothering you so much, you haven’t slept for weeks. Even your co-workers have noticed your pale visage. Sleep deprivation has caused dark circles under your eyes and now it’s literally visible, that you suffer insomnia. Also, your diet has been miserable the last few days and you suffer great crunches in your belly because you are undergoing such pressure.
The root-problem.
You are not in any crisis, but it’s a result of the fact that you are jealous of your friend and over her new relationship. Do you see? It’s inward invisible jealousy that gives you hard times and drives you into self-condemnation and depression. To build up yourself through self-help, your ID, ego or super-ego doesn’t work. These psychological methods are a poor help for your problem because they are not dealing with the root. The root of your depression is sin. Yes, you hear me well. This old fashioned word which has no meaning in our modern, rather post-modern world, is the right definition of your problem.
Definition of the problem.
The Bible speaks about the origin of sin, but also about its effects and cure. Sin has entered as disobedience to the voice of God, and it has brought shame, fear and guilt, and expressed itself in hiding from God. It has brought false covering in form of fig leaves. And finally, it resulted in excuses and in blaming others. Wow, what a diagnosis.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. (Genesis 3:7-12)
The solution to the problem.
Unconfessed sin and unresolved quilt, which is coming from unreconciled relationship leads to destruction and even to murder. Remember Cain, who killed his brother because of jealousy over the issue of acceptance. These things are very serious and unfortunately, secular psychology is many times denying it, thus suppressing the real problem with some “method”. It is like if you are bleeding and you are given a cold head wrap for it. It takes away the headache symptoms for a while but doesn’t solve the bleeding. Secular psychology wants to emphasize the need for self-preservation. But Biblical psychology then teaches losing your life for the sake of others. That’s how you can preserve your life, by losing it. And not the life itself only, but also it’s quality.
